Press Release
Top women executives reveal a new leadership for modern business

Leadership expert Roslyn Courtney explores a unique approach
with celebrated visionaries and change agents on June 20, 2007

NEW YORK – June 27, 2007. The Imperial CEO – driven by traditional concepts of power and hierarchy – continues to dominate modern business, while a quiet revolution goes unrecognized. Women at the Forefront, an exclusive forum presented by the US Trust Corporation, brought to life a distinct approach to leadership that produces robust growth in an era of unprecedented change.

Roslyn Courtney, a recognized authority on leadership and organization management, moderated a conversation with three women CEOs about their leadership.

“Nina Link of the Magazine Publishers of America, Susan Lyne of Martha Stewart Living OmniMedia, and Frances Sevilla-Sacasa of US Trust repeatedly seize the opportunity and create a compelling platform for innovation and growth. They are effective change agents forging distinctive businesses and cultures,” Courtney says. Their stories inspire us to think and lead differently, and dare ‘to have it all’.

Based on in-depth interviews with 80 top leaders, predominantly women, and her extensive experience in global business, Ms. Courtney takes a quantum leap in defining the unique mindset and actions of leaders who deliver extraordinary results. Until now, it is only through direct exposure in the workplace that people discover this markedly different view and enjoy the inevitable benefits.

Courtney finds that a growing number of female leaders are leading differently to break new ground and impact entire businesses and industries like never before. Her conclusions are very different from the assertions of the new feminist advocates who believe that women are better leaders than men.

“These women exemplars are distinctive not just because they are feminine,” says Courtney. “Rather, through the verve of their visions of the future, through their view of business challenge and change, through a personal conviction to reach the right solution for their stakeholders, they drive dynamic impact – taking their companies to the forefront of their markets, forcing competitors to play catch-up.”

As Ms. Courtney asserts, “It’s time to crack open the black box of what makes a great leader, instead of focusing on personal traits, to capture the approach of proven visionaries and change agents.”

Topics covered in this discussion included:

  • How new leaders transform companies and cultures, create new rules of the road, and produce measurable impact

  • What these leaders see and know that other corporate executives don’t

  • How to build trust early in the change process

  • How leaders engage diverse opinions, talents, and styles to get superior solutions
